Riza Quli Khan Nizam Mafi (Nizam al-Saltanah)

Riza Quli Khan Nizam Mafi (Nizam al-Saltanah), the son of Haydar Quli Khan Burhan al-Dawlah and the nephew of Husayn Quli Khan Nizam al-Saltanah, was born in 1867 or 1868. He married Khadijah Sultan; their children are: Sadiq (who died in childhood), Muhammad ‘Ali (Salar Mu‘azzam), Muhammad Taqi, Zahra Sultan (‘Izzat al-Saltanah), Mahmud, and Ma‘sumah. He died in 1924 at the age of 57 in Tehran.

Riza Quli Khan Nizam Mafi (Nizam al-Saltanah), the son of Haydar Quli Khan Burhan al-Dawlah, was born in 1867 or 1868. He was the nephew of Husayn Quli Khan Nizam al-Saltanah. At the age of fifteen, Riza Quli Khan moved to Tehran and started studying there. He gradually became involved in his uncle's financial and administrative matters. In 1891, he was appointed a deputy in the government of Bushihr and other ports. In 1892 and 1893, he was chosen to be his uncle's deputy in Fars, and in 1894 and 1896, his uncle's deputy in Luristan. In 1900, he became the leader of the army of Azarbayjan, and in 1901, he was assigned governor of Bushihr and earned the title of Salar Mu‘azzam. When Husayn Quli Khan died in 1908 or 1909, his title, Nizam al-Saltanah, was transferred to Riza Quli Khan. Riza Quli Khan's other titles were Mujir al-Saltanah and Sardar Mukarram. He married Khadijah Sultan, and their children are: Sadiq (died in childhood), Muhammad ‘Ali (Salar Mu‘azzam), Muhammad Taqi, Zahra Sultan (‘Izzat al-Saltanah), Mahmud, and Ma‘sumah. He was the governor of Luristan, Arabistan (Khuzistan), Burujird, Kirmanshah, and Fars from 1905 to 1915. His most important political activities were the establishment of the council of ministers for the temporary nationalist government, and his opposition to Russian and British forces, which eventually led to his (and his family's) immigration to Turkey. He returned to Iran in 1919 was appointed governor of Khurasan between 1921 and 1922. He returned to Tehran in 1923 and died there a year later at the age of 57. Close
