Umm Salamah (Galin Khanum)

Umm Salamah (Galin Khanum) was daughter of Ziba Chihr Khanum (from Georgia) and Fath 'Ali Shah Qajar. She was married to Zayn al-'Abidin Khan (son of Husayn Quli Khan, Fath 'Ali Shah's brother). In Hadiqat al-Shuʻara she is called ""ʻIsmat-i Qajar"" (Qajar's chastity).

Umm Salamah (Galin Khanum), one of the calligraphers and poets of 19th century Iran, was daughter of Ziba Chihr Khanum (from Georgia) and Fath 'Ali Shah Qajar. She was married to Zayn al-'Abidin Khan (son of Husayn Quli Khan, Fath 'Ali Shah's brother). Galin Khanum learned calligraphy from masters such as Aqa Zayn al-ʻAbidin Isfahani and Haj ʻAli Aqa (son of Muhammad ʻAli Khan Nazm al-Dawlah). She also knew the art of illumination. In Hadiqat al-Shuʻara she is called "ʻIsmat-i Qajar" (Qajar's chastity). She handwrote several prayers and verses of the Qur'an, among them a volume of Qur'an in 1884. She was well-known for her exquisite calligraphy. Close
