Taj Mah (Afaq al-Dawlah)

Taj Mah, known as Afaq al-Dawlah, was the daughter of Mirza ʻAli Akbar Khan Ajudan Bashi [head aide-de-camp]. She married Fath Allah Khan Arfaʻ al-Saltanah (Sardar Amjad) and divorced him later.

Taj Mah, known as Afaq al-Dawlah, was the daughter of Mirza ʻAli Akbar Khan Ajudan Bashi [head aide-de-camp]. She was the first woman translator of plays, fluent in Turkish and Arabic, and a poet. Her husband, Fath Allah Khan Arfaʻ al-Saltanah (Sardar Amjad) was the ruler of Talish and a supporter of Muhammad ʻAli Shah. In July 1907, during the Constitutional period, the people of Karganrud pillaged and burnt his residence, known as Aq Qular mansion, hence, all of Afaq al-Dawlah's poems and writing were burnt. It seems that she re-wrote her book of poems after that. Afaq al-Dawlah subsequently divorced her husband. In 1906 [or 1907] Afaq al-Dawlah translated the book, Nadir Shah, by Nariman Narimanov (the Azarbayjani author) from Turkish to Persian and published it. Her two other works are: Kulliyat and Sihhat-i Muzaffari. Close
