Mir Sayyid ‘Ali Jinab's house

Mir Sayyid ‘Ali Jinab's house

Muhammad Husayn Mirza, the father of Saltanat Khanum (the wife of Mir Sayyid ‘Ali Jinab, known as Shazdah Jan), built this complex of connected yards and residential buildings about two hundred years ago in a neighborhood in Isfahan. One of the alleys still carries Mir Sayyid ‘Ali Jinab’s name. However, all of the buildings and yards have since been divided into modern residences and sold. As of the date of this documentation (2015), Mir Sayyed Ali Jenab (the owner of this collection and the grandson of Saltanat Khanum and Mir Sayyid ‘Ali Jinab) continues to live in one of the residences, which has preserved the old urusi and padari; the rest of the building has been redesigned and rebuilt.

The photographs were taken in the old parts of the house and include the urusi (panjdari with new windows), shah-nishin, two gushvarahs on both sides (which were not accessible from the floor level and were only photographed from outside), padari, some objects (stored in the space above the staircase), and some scales and lanterns (hanged in the renovated section).
