The Lillian F. Kappes Memorial Fund.

In earlier days Persia did not recognise the need of education for women. Some of them were endeavoring to advance by studying behind a curtain when their brothers were being taught. Two small schools were doing their best under difficulties.

Realizing the need of a Central School for girls, the Tarbiat-el-Benat was opened with 30 pupils. In 1911 Miss Kappes came and in the ten years of her labor the list increased to above 300.

Her martyred body is at rest in Persian soil but the work she accomplished is a living force today.

Under the efficient control of a Persian woman suprintendent and of the three American teachers Kappes, Coy and Sharp, the list of scholars is now more than 500 with a large corps of Persian teachers and assistants.

We are in need of more room for Kindergarten and class work and are also expecting to have a Boarding Department, so that the girls from other parts of the country may prepare to return home as teachers. We have now many teaching in Govt. schools. Americans have paid many tuitions.

I appeal to you for the girls and the Kappes Memorial Fund.
