I closed my letter last night without telling you one of the principal things. Miss Kappes’ one great object was that the Bahais should own a school building & as we wrote you the fund which was begun with your money was started up to her last breath her maid was on it & only the day before she died she sent our servant to see a man who had promised that the money to buy the building vacated by the boys school he would raise. but it was not done. The committee promised to move the girls school to that same building, but we never knew why they changed their minds.

Dr Moody is very anxious to carry out Miss Kappes wish & have a house built or bought & so she has started a memorial [page 2, right side of image 70] fund & we have already secured a number of subscriptions from the foreigners & will begin with the Persians after Naurooz (March 21st) of course a project so worthy will be carried out & a pupil of Miss K. a Belgian whom she taught English is the Persian Goot Architect & he will gladly help us out. like everybody else he was devoted to Miss K. & is greatly grieved that one so clever & valuable to all of us should have been snatched away.

The teachers in the school are very faithful & remain at their work, but they soon realized how helpless they are without a good [page 3, left side of image 70] & proper leader.

The Persians are very clever intrigues, Miss K. was made to suffer intensely because of their personal enmities among themselves, she must have thousands of jewels in her crown. you can never begin to imagine how good she was. no one was ever so just & one of her remarks during her illness was “no one can ever say I have not been just” it breaks my heart to think about many things. Those who have not dealt with Orientals do not realize what they are spared. not every one of them is bad but one bad Oriental is like a thousand other [page 4, left side of image 69] human beings with bad intentions.

Probably when this letter reaches you Manutcher will have left California. he is one of the good ones he lived with us five years.
