Marriage contract between Zinat al-Nisaʼ Khanum with Aqa Muhammad Sadiq, 1854

Marriage contract between Zinat al-Nisaʼ Khanum, the daughter of Aqa ʻAli, and Muhammad Sadiq, the son of Mirza Husayn, on June 23, 1854. The mahr includes 30 tumans cash, a room’s carpets, including a rug and a pair of felt rugs, a qalamkar bed covering, parts of some gardens and one sixth of a dyer’s shop. These properties were part of the bridegroom’s mother’s mahr but went on to be included in the bride’s mahr. On the verso there are two settlements: the first is between the bride [Zinat al-Nisaʼ Khanum] and her paternal uncle, Aqa Mirza Husayn, dated June 23, 1854, regarding some goods, including a pair of red pants, wrapping clothes, a quilt, a bed cover, and some carpets. The second settlement reads as follows: ““it has been settled that [Zinat al-Nisaʼ Khanum] accepts goods worth 19 tumans from the properties [of her late husband], since the deceased left no cash. Apart from what belongs to her, which was included in the marriage contract, and half of her share of the inheritance, which will be calculated after debts are paid, she will have no additional rights.”” The seal reads: ““Muhammad son of Ibrahim.”” After some investigation, it was decided that [Zinat al-Nisaʼ Khanum] should receive 11 tumans from Aqa Mirza Husayn for her expenses. The document further declares that Mirza Rahim will pay her some money in two years, after which she will have no additional rights. Dated September 2nd, 1876.
