Mirza Uvanis' complaint against Muʻazzam al-Dawlah
Documents include the following: a note indicating the debt of Karbalayi Haji, Muʻazzam al-Dawlah’s companion, to Mirza Uvanis as 361 tumans, 2 qirans, and 15 shahies, in which he promises to return the money in 10 days; the office [of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs] in Hamadan writes to the British consulate that Mirza Uvanis is not a citizen of the Ottoman Empire and his complaint is therefore not related to this office. They also mention that Uvanis’ complaint has been submitted, with his consent, to the Ministry of Justice, which voted against him. Nevertheless, after being convicted, Uvanis claimed that he is not an Iranian citizen in order to invalidate the verdict; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs the British Consulate that the request to consider Mirza Uvanis’ complaint has been dealt with; the British Consulate requests that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ office in Hamadan to take Mirza Uvanis’ money from Karbalayi Haji, the companion and attorney of Muʻazzam a-Dawlah; the office in Hamadan writes to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about Mirza Uvanis’ claim of Karbalayi Haji’s debt to him; Mirza Uvanis complains that the office in Hamadan does not take his request into account and he asks the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to order this office to solve his problem.
