Sarkies Carapet Basil
Sarkies Carapet Basil was born on February 1879 in Tehran. At 36, he married Heripsima Abrahamiyan. Their marriage was held in 17 April 1915 in the Anglican Church. Heripsima and Sarkies had four children: Vachik (1916-1974), Lili (1918-1953), a third child who died right after its birth, and Shahen (1924-1945). Heripsima was active in business before and after her marriage. Sarkies died in February 9, 1955, two years after the death of their daughter, Lili.
Sarkies Carapet Basil was born in February 1879 in Tehran. His father (known as Jambar Carapet) was a glass cutter. Jambars were among the first Armenian Immigrants who came from Isfahan to Tehran following Nasir al-Din Shah's decree. These glass cutters undertook mirror-works for the Gulistan Palace and other palaces and mansions of affluent Qajar families. Sarkies spent his childhood with his mother's affluent family in Singapore. He studied English and then left Singapore for India to learn telegraphy. After returning to Iran, he was employed in the Post and Telegraph Office and worked there until his retirement. At 36 he married Heripsima Abrahamiyan. Their marriage was held in 17 April 1915 in the Anglican Church.
