Parvin I‘tisami

b. 17 March 1907 Tabriz
d. 5 April 1941 Tehran

Rakhshandah (Parvin) I‘tisami, a well-known poet, was the daughter of Akhtar I‘tisami and Yusuf I‘tisami (I‘tisam al-Mulk); she was born in Tabriz on March 17, 1907. The family moved to Tehran early in her life. She received training in Arabic and classical Persian literature from her father and met a number of noted poets, including Dihkhuda and Malik al-Shu‘ara Bahar. After her 1924 graduation from the Iran Bethel, an American high school for girls, she taught there for a while. She married a cousin of her father's in 1934 and moved to Kirmanshah. However, she returned home after only ten weeks; the marriage was dissolved. She worked at the library of the Teacher Training College (Danish-sara-ye ‘Ali) for several months in 1938-39. She died in 1941 and was buried in her family mausoleum at Hazrat-i Maʻsumah shrine in Qum.
