  Young female musicians, dancers, and acrobats were a favorite subject of large scale oil paintings made during the reign of the Qajar dynasty of Iran (1794-1925), in particular during the reigns of Fath ʻAli Shah and Muhammad Shah. Such paintings were hung in the private rooms of the palace, not in public reception rooms. This painting was purchased at Valentine Gallery, January 22, 1942.
