Notes
Item information is based on source data from CIJOH. This is CIJOH’s note on this item: “Jewish involvement in large numbers with art and folk music is not surprising, as Jews were the largest and most widely dispersed minority population. Moreover, given the multitude of repressive restrictions on physical contact with Jews and the debilitating economic and employment limitations that were placed on them, music making provided a means of income for many Jewish families throughout Iran. As a result, Jewish musicians inadvertently became essential contributory safekeepers of traditional Persian music.”
